Psycho – Social Counseling Center for Women(PSCCW) and United Nation Offices for the Coordination of Humanitarian affairs(OCHA), which funded, their new project under the title of “Psycho- Social Support for Palestinian Detained, Ex- detained Children, and Their Families in South of West Bank”. This project targeted Palestinian detained, ex- detained children and their families in seven locations in Bethlehem and Hebron, within the Humanitarian response plan of 2017.
This project aimed to contribute of protect the right of the Palestinian detained, ex- detained children and their families in accordance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Right Law in area C in south of West Bank. The selection of area was depended on the number of the children detained, ex- detained on the area , which areas distributed as the most vulnerable to Israeli polices violations. These areas are Beit Fajjar village, Tuqu’ village, Aida and Dheisheh refugees camps in Bethlehem district and Beit Ummar village, the old city and Al-Arroub refugees camp in Hebron district .
The PSCCW is going to use the holistic method to deal with the Palestinian children of detained, ex- detained in this way:
First: Provision of child protection services including individual case management.
Second: Provision of structured psycho- social support for children and adults through individual and group counselling.
Third: support of survivors of Gender based violence, 14 groups are going to build on seven locations, 2 groups in each location (depended on the number of the Palestinian detained, ex- detained children), 20 persons each group are going to contain. These groups are going to help the families and raise their awareness about detained effects and raise their skills and abilities to communicate with their children when they got release.
Four qualified social workers are going to work in the field with children for12 month, to provide different activities including awareness, recreational and build assessment activities. In addition, it is going to reached 280child and their families in seven location in south of the West Bank.
The project is important, because it focused on detained and ex-detainees children. We believe that violence and detained experience in young age cause Psycho effects on the children.
The Israeli occupation is doing planed process to broke children personality and humiliate them. For these reasons, they released hopeless and they are not able to take a positive decision in their life. They lake of trust with others and difficulties of communication with their friends, families. They need psycho support and professional support to get through these traumatic difficulties.
